Thoughts

Blogging hasn’t happened for a disgracefully long period of time. That is proof that I am finally really busy.

Here are a few thoughts on my recent life:

1. I have a gorgeous shiny new diary to make sure I look organised next year.

2. Herr Michael presented me with some really nice red wine for Christmas today.

3. I am going home tomorrow!

4. At my grandpa’s funeral my two first cousins asked to pray with my sister and me before the funeral service started and a relative came up afterwards and said to us how glad she was that Jesus meant so much to us. My grandpa’s funeral was so beautiful. I have to find out the piece my cousin played on the organ just before the coffin came in. It had me in floods. Music is so transcendent – only that and the words Mary and I read from the Bible really did justice to his life and our grief.

5. I bought Kendrick a sword for Secret Santa. I don’t know if he thought it was that funny. I would have liked it if I liked swords. The man at the sword stall asked me how old the child was for whom I was buying it.

6. Katie Nairne came to visit – BANTER – we made up some quality Christmas chat-up lines. Like “you can ride my sleigh” – but that’s inappropriate.

7. I sang in a concert on Saturday night. It was so beautiful (apart from some Rutter kitsch) – the church we sang in was gorgeous … although I spotted one of my pupils in the audience.

8. I am going on a German students’ conference on 28th December til 3rd January and I’m the only non-German going. I don’t know quite why that fills me with fear because for goodness sake I’m on my year abroad but I have been cosseted in the language sense for quite a while now, even though my German is defs improving. To be honest I’ve spoken not much this month, what with going home on 2nd December and having Katie round pretty much as soon as I got back.

9. My flight to come home was cancelled. It was so annoying – I was on the plane and everything and then Ryanair announced that because of protestors we were staying put. It meant Stansted was like a cattle market, I’ve never seen so many people in such a small space all exuding stress in quite the same way before. My legendary parents got me another flight the same day (I had to be back in Berlin to work!) and then we almost missed it because I misread my boarding pass. I mean, we got to Luton at 17:20 when the flight took off at 17:40. I got on the aeroplane with my boots and belt undone because I had rushed through the beepy machines so fast. Well, as fast as I could. I looked in a hurry and was puffing and steaming lots so I must have looked impressively pushed for time.

10. I can’t wait to be back in England! I don’t really want to leave Germany at all, it’s more that I know it’s going to be really fun and really relaxing, and Christmas holidays are always nice. I’m just not used to one that’s quite so short!
